It is often thought that only women are judged, usually judged by looks. The greatest insults you can give a woman is to say she is fat or ugly or that certain body parts are not up to par. However, most people don’t think there are equivalent insults for men that cause just as much damage. But there are. Men are judged by their performance and ability. This is why one of the common insults applied to men is to call one a loser. The implication is he doesn’t have a job, he can’t do anything right, he’s clumsy, etc. Men are judged by what they can or can’t do.

Don’t be fooled, it’s damaging. Men are expected to be able to do things, get it up and keep it, and if they can’t or don’t, they are considered disposable. Men must fight in wars, have jobs, provide, perform in bed, be strong, be the one who admits when he’s wrong yet should do everything right, have a cool skill. Then people have the nerve to make fun of the guy who’s a show-off. Or have the nerve to block him from doing things, when it’s expected that he “do things”. And if he wears down or any of these things he does destroys him, then he is discarded. And people have the nerve to chastise him for not going to the doctor when they also expect him to be strong, capable and to endure everything. Nonsense.

If a man can’t do these things, he is looked down upon, rejected, expected to do better. It’s even cause for the end of relationships.
